Die Venus von Milo , eine halbnackte Statue der Göttin Aphrodite, ist neben der Laokoon-Gruppe und der Nike von Samothrake eines der bekanntesten Beispiele der hellenistischen Kunst. Die 2,02 Meter hohe und somit leicht überlebensgroße Statue entstand gegen Ende des 2. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. Der Name des Künstlers ist nicht überliefert.
Die Skulptur besteht aus Marmor aus den Steinbrüchen der Kykladeninsel Paros und symbolisiert das Ideal der weiblichen Schönheit. Daher wurde sie nach der römischen Göttin Venus benannt. Da Venus die römische Entsprechung der griechischen Aphrodite ist, wird die Statue auch „Aphrodite von Melos “ genannt.
