Die Einrichtung befindet sich im Südflügel der ehemaligen Benediktinerabtei, in der auch die Benediktinerbibliothek aus dem 18. Jahrhundert untergebracht ist, und hat die Aufgabe, das sakrale Kunsterbe des Departements durch die Depots der Gemeinden und des Departements zur Geltung zu bringen: Goldschmiedearbeiten (Kelche, Kreuze usw.), aber auch Skulpturen und Objekte der Volksfrömmigkeit (Wachskleider, Reliquienbehälter). Ein Raum des Museums beherbergt temporäre Ausstellungen.
