Als Zwischenstation auf einem der Jakobswege war Lestelle-Bétharram vor allem als Pilgerort vor Lourdes bekannt, was das Vorhandensein der Heiligtümer und eines Kalvarienbergs erklärt. Seit fast acht Jahrhunderten wird die Jungfrau Maria in Bétharram unter verschiedenen, sehr populären Namen verehrt.
Auf dem Gelände der Heiligtümer befindet sich das Heimatmuseum der Patres von Bétharram, das eine bunte Sammlung von Gegenständen enthält. Es wurde 1936 eröffnet und soll erklären, dass die Kongregation einen missionarischen Zweck verfolgte, der mit der ersten Mission in China zusammenhängt.
