Aunque el pueblecito de Bétharram es conocido actualmente por sus cuevas, antiguamente era conocido por ser, sobre todo, un lugar de peregrinaje cercano a Lourdes y mas anterior a esté ùltimo. Después cerca de ocho siglos, la Virgen es venerada en Bétharram con varios nombres muy populares.
En el interior de uno de los edificios del santuario, el Museo del Patrimonio de los Padres de Bétharram reúne una colección irregular de objetos: monedas y billetes de banco, minerales y fósiles, prehistoria e industria lítica, bordados, esculturas y pinturas, y artesanía. Inaugurado en 1936, pretende explicar que la congregación tiene un fin misionero, en lazo con la primera misión en China; esta misión se entendió más tarde en otros países.
