Lestelle-Bétharram era nota come tappa di uno dei percorsi di pellegrinaggio verso Santiago de Compostela, ed era innanzitutto un luogo di pellegrinaggio prima di Lourdes, il che spiega la presenza di santuari e di un Calvario. Da quasi otto secoli, la Vergine Maria è venerata a Betharram con diversi nomi popolari.
Il museo dell'eredità dei Padri di Betharram, ospitato all'interno dei santuari, riunisce una variegata collezione di oggetti. Inaugurato nel 1936, ha lo scopo di spiegare che la congregazione aveva uno scopo missionario, in relazione alla prima missione in Cina; questa missione è stata successivamente estesa ad altri Paesi.
