Das Krankenhaus wurde 1237 von Bruder Robert gegründet, einem aus Rom stammenden Ordensmann des Hospitalordens vom Heiligen Geist, der bis zur Revolution Arme, Kranke und Witwen von den Schwestern von Neufchâteau aufnahm.
Von dieser mittelalterlichen Hospitalstiftung, der einzigen in den Vogesen, blieb, umgebaut und erweitert, nur die Kapelle erhalten.
Sie war bis 1998 im Besitz des Krankenhauses und ging dann in den Besitz der Stadt über.
