Die heutige Kirche befindet sich in der Mitte des Dorfes an der Stelle einer alten Kapelle: Wendelinuskapelle. Gottesdienste fanden vor allem im Winter statt.
Ab 1862 brachte der Pfarrer der Gemeinde, Abbé Stanislas MULLER, das Projekt zum Bau einer neuen Kirche auf den Weg. Der Grundstein wurde am 9. Oktober 1864 in Anwesenheit zahlreicher Persönlichkeiten gelegt.
