L’église actuelle se situe au milieu du village sur l’emplacement d’une vieille chapelle : Wendelinuskapelle. Des offices eurent lieu surtout en hiver.
Dès 1862, l’abbé Stanislas MULLER, curé de la paroisse mit en route le projet de construction d’une nouvelle église. La première pierre a été posée le 9 octobre 1864 en présence de nombreuses personnalités.
