La iglesia actual está situada en el centro del pueblo, en el emplazamiento de una antigua capilla: Wendelinuskapelle. Los servicios se celebraban principalmente en invierno.
Ya en 1862, el párroco, el padre Stanislas MULLER, inició el proyecto de construcción de una nueva iglesia. La primera piedra se colocó el 9 de octubre de 1864 en presencia de numerosas personalidades.
