Der Tranchée de Calonne ist eine 25 km lange Straße, die Verdun mit Hattonchâtel verbindet. Jahrhundert auf Befehl des Ministers von Ludwig XVI, Charles Alexandre de Calonne, angelegt und war während des Ersten Weltkriegs Schauplatz heftiger Kämpfe. Alain Fournier, der Autor von Le Grand Meaulnes, war als Leutnant im 288. RI eingezogen und wurde am 22. September 1914 in der Nähe von Dommartin la Montagne als vermisst gemeldet. Seine Leiche und die seiner Kameraden wurden 1991 auf einer Lichtung im Bois de Saint Rémy, 200 Meter vom Verlauf des Schützengrabens von Calonne entfernt, gefunden. Alain Fournier ruht nun auf dem Nationalfriedhof von Saint Rémy la Calonne.
