Von Wilhelm dem Eroberer bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg war die Burg aufgrund ihrer defensiven Funktion Zeuge einer tausendjährigen Geschichte. Das Schloss ist von Wassergräben und einem gepflegten, romantischen Park umgeben.
