Die von den Flüssen Vézère und Dordogne eingerahmte Gemeinde Saint-Chamassy dominiert den Zusammenfluss der beiden Flüsse Vézère und Dordogne.
Die Gemeinde, deren Name auf die okzitanische Verballhornung von Saint Eumache zurückgeht, stand im Laufe der Jahrhunderte unter der Herrschaft der Herren von Bigaroque und später von Limeuil.
Sie liegt in gleicher Entfernung von Perigueux, Sarlat und Bergerac, im Herzen einer Region, die reich an touristischen Attraktionen ist. Die Ruhe in Verbindung mit der abwechslungsreichen Landschaft macht sie zu einer Oase des Friedens.
