Der Überlieferung nach stammt die Kapelle von Saint Jacques du Stat aus der Karolingerzeit. Von der ursprünglichen Kapelle sind nur noch der Glockenturm (als historisches Denkmal eingetragen) und der alte Chor erhalten.
Im Jahr 1878 wurde die Kirche vergrößert und erhielt ihre endgültige Form, um alle Gläubigen aufnehmen zu können.
Die Kirche von Saint Jacques du Stat liegt auf dem Sommerweg der Jakobspilger nach Santiago de Compostela.
Der Verein der Freunde des Heiligen Jakobus organisiert jedes Jahr Ende Juli ein Fest, um das Fest des Heiligen Jakobus zu feiern.
