Die Vierte Französische Republik war die Staatsform Frankreichs zwischen dem 27. Oktober 1946 und dem 4. Oktober 1958 . Die IV. Republik entstand nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Das vom nationalsozialistischen Deutschland abhängige Vichy-Regime war 1944 bedeutungslos geworden; de Gaulle hatte am 3. Juni 1944 die Provisorische Regierung der Französischen Republik gegründet und war am 13. November 1945 von der Nationalversammlung zum Ministerpräsidenten gewählt worden.
