Der bekannteste Künstler aus Colmar ist Auguste Bartholdi. Dieser Künstler hat unter anderem die Freiheitsstatue in New York City und einige andere berühmte Statuen in Frankreich. Einigen Quellen zufolge suchte er bei seiner Mutter nach der Inspiration für das Gesicht der Freiheitsstatue. In Colmar gibt es mehrere Statuen von Bartholdi. In Colmar wurde des 100. Todestages von Bartholdi auf verschiedene Weise gedacht. Eine bleibende Erinnerung daran ist die zwölf Meter hohe Nachbildung der Freiheitsstatue, die auf einem Kreisverkehr vor den Toren der Stadt aufgestellt wurde. In Colmar finden Sie auch das Bartholdi-Museum.
Das Bild auf dem Foto ist der Schwendi-Brunnen, dieses Bild wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts von Bartholdi entworfen. Statue und Brunnen stehen auf dem Platz vor dem ehemaligen Zollamt. Der Mann auf dem Brunnen ist Lazarus von Schwendi, ein deutscher Heerführer und Diplomat, der im Dienst Kaiser Karls V. stand.
