Markasitknollen können zu "Kügelchen" oder sogar zu überdimensionalen Phallussymbolen heranwachsen. Erst wenn man sie aufbricht, sieht man die wunderschöne radiale Kristallstruktur von Eisen(II)-sulfid. Das Mineral Markasit oder Speerstein ist ein Eisen(II)-sulfid mit der chemischen Formel FeS2. In der Urgeschichte wurde es als Feuerstarter in Kombination mit Feuerstein verwendet. Und diesen Feuerstein findet man hier ebenfalls massenhaft.
