Das Kantonsgericht wird an der Stelle eines Hauses errichtet, das bis zur Revolution als Kanzlei der bischöflichen Vogtei von Marckolsheim diente und von 1806 bis 1857 als Jungenschule genutzt wurde. In diesem Gebäude wurden das Kabinett des Friedensrichters und das Gerichtspräsidium untergebracht, die sich zuvor im Rathaus befanden. Das aus Quadersteinen errichtete Gerichtsgebäude hat einen Balkon, der von zwei Pilastern mit Blattkapitellen und Engelsköpfen umgeben ist und von einem Giebel gekrönt wird. Auf der Rückseite des Gerichtsgebäudes befindet sich das Gebäude des ehemaligen Gefängnisses, das zur gleichen Zeit in der Mitte des 19.
