Dolleren verdankt seinen Namen dem Fluss Doller, der wahrscheinlich aus dem Keltischen stammt: die oller: das fließende Wasser.
Das Dorf wurde erstmals unter dem Namen Tholier im Jahr 1567 erwähnt.
Im 18. Jahrhundert wurden Granitsteinbrüche sowie Eisen- und Kupferminen betrieben. Im Jahr 1847 wurde eine Baumwollweberei gegründet. Am 6. August 1914 wurde das Dorf wieder französisch und diente während des gesamten Krieges als Erholungsgebiet der Hinterfront.
