Das Denkmal ist das Werk von Maurice Ringot und wurde 1923 eingeweiht und 1945 restauriert, wobei die Einschusslöcher, die die Bronze durchbohrten, sichtbar blieben.
Es stellt einen sterbenden Soldaten mit den Siegespalmen in der Hand vor den Stadtmauern dar, symbolisiert durch eine aus Kalkstein gefertigte Statue einer Frau mit dem Wappen von Bergues zu ihren Füßen .
