Der Tour du Roy ist das Ergebnis eines Plans zur Modernisierung der Mauern, den Franz I. nach der Belagerung von Mézières durch die Truppen Karls V. im Jahr 1521 anordnete.
Trotz des tapferen Widerstands der Stadt unter dem Kommando des Ritters Bayard offenbarte diese Belagerung die Alterung der alten Mauern. Deshalb ließ Franz I. die Befestigungsanlagen verstärken. Die Mauern dieses Turms sind 6 Meter dick und im Inneren befinden sich gewölbte Kasematten , die sich mit Kanonenöffnungen öffnen ließen. Das Dach war flach: Der Turm musste Kanonenfeuer standhalten und der französischen Artillerie die Verteidigung der Stadt ermöglichen.
Im Jahr 1885 wurde ein zinnenbewehrter Wasserturm angebaut. sein neomittelalterlicher Look!
