La Torre del Roy es el resultado de un plan de modernización de las murallas ordenado por Francisco I tras el asedio de Mézières por las tropas de Carlos V en 1521.
A pesar de la valiente resistencia de la ciudad bajo el mando del caballero Bayard, este asedio reveló el envejecimiento de las antiguas murallas. Por ello, Francisco I hizo reforzar las fortificaciones. Los muros de esta torre tienen 6 metros de espesor y en su interior hay casamatas abovedadas que se abren con troneras. El tejado era plano: la torre debía resistir el fuego de los cañones y permitir a la artillería francesa defender la ciudad.
En 1885 se añadió una torre de agua almenada. ¡ Su aspecto es neomedieval!
