Im Februar und März 1814, während der Napoleonischen Kriege, besetzten russische Truppen Solre-le-Château. Französische Soldaten aus Maubeuge führten einen Überras-chungsangriff durch und konnten die Russen vom Dorfplatz vertreiben, wobei sie sich sogar bis in die Keller der Häuser versteckten. Dieses Ereignis spielte sich direkt auf dem Platz selbst ab. Der Angriff scheiterte jedoch an seinem Ziel, die Vorräte zu zerstören.
