Die südliche Ecke des Platzes war der Ort des Mordes an Catherine Eddowes durch "Jack the Ripper". Ihr verstümmelter Körper wurde dort um 1.45 Uhr am Morgen des 30. September 1888 gefunden. Dies war der westlichste der Whitechapel-Morde und der einzige, der innerhalb der Stadt stattfand.
