Zakynthos, auch Zákinthos ; italienisch Zante), ist mit einer Fläche von etwa 406 km² nach Kefalonia und Korfu die drittgrößte und südlichste der größeren Ionischen Inseln und die zehntgrößte Insel Griechenlands. Hauptort ist die gleichnamige Stadt Zakynthos.
Zusammen mit der unbewohnten Inselgruppe der Strofaden bildete Zakynthos von 1866 bis 2010 die Präfektur Zakynthos . Mit der griechischen Verwaltungsreform 2010 wurden die Präfekturen abgeschafft und die sechs Gemeinden der Insel wurden zu einer einzigen Gemeinde Zakynthos zusammengelegt. Die Gemeinde ist deckungsgleich mit dem Regionalbezirk Zakynthos , der acht Abgeordnete in den Regionalrat der Region Ionische Inseln entsendet.
