Der Ausdruck Ballinlass Incident bezeichnet eine polizeiliche Vertreibungsaktion am 13. März 1846 im County Galway während der Großen Hungersnot in Irland .
Irland war damals Teil des Königreiches Großbritannien und Irland, der Boden in Irland gehörte Großgrundbesitzern . Die irischen Bauern bestellten als Pächter das Land, bauten darauf Getreide und Kartoffeln an und züchteten Vieh. Getreide und Vieh dienten zur Pachtzahlung an die Großgrundbesitzer. Zur eigenen Ernährung blieben den Bauern im Wesentlichen nur die Kartoffeln. Die Pächter hatten gegenüber den Grundbesitzern wenig rechtlichen Schutz.
