Das berühmte Gemälde Die Schlacht bei Marciano von Giorgio Vasari (auch bekannt als die Schlacht bei Scannagallo) ist im Palazzo Vechio zu sehen. Die Schlacht bei Marciano fand am 2. August 1554 auf dem Land von Marciano della Chiana, nahe Arezzo in der Toskana, während des Italienischen Krieges von 1551 statt. Die Schlacht markierte die Niederlage der Republik Siena in ihrem Krieg gegen das Herzogtum Florenz und führte dazu, dass Siena ihre Unabhängigkeit verlor und in das Großherzogtum Toskana eingegliedert wurde.
Das Gemälde spielt auch eine wichtige Rolle im Buch Inferno von Dan Brown.
