Der Monte Viso ist ein Dreitausender in den Cottischen Alpen im Nordwesten Italiens nahe der Grenze zu Frankreich. Seit dem 29. Mai 2013 gehört das Gebiet als grenzüberschreitendes Biosphärenreservat zum UNESCO-Welterbe.
Der Monte Viso ist der am südlichsten gelegene Berg der Alpen über 3500 Meter und der höchste der Cottischen Alpen. Er überragt alle umliegenden Gipfel um etwa 500 Meter und ist daher weithin sichtbar. Dies unterstreicht auch die gebräuchliche Bezeichnung des Bergs als re di pietra .
