Die Italienische Sozialrepublik , oft auch Republik von Salò genannt, war ein faschistischer Satellitenstaat in Norditalien unter der militärischen Protektion des Deutschen Reichs, dessen Territorium sich auf das deutsche Besatzungsgebiet beschränkte.
Der Staat bestand zwischen dem 23. September 1943 und dem 25. April 1945 und führte den Zweiten Weltkrieg bis zum Ende auf Seiten Deutschlands und der Achsenmächte weiter. Regierungssitz war Salò am Gardasee , Staatschef der am 25. Juli 1943 abgesetzte diktatorische Ministerpräsident Italiens, Benito Mussolini. Die Republik, welche den zweiten und letzten faschistischen Staat in Italien darstellte, hörte in der Nacht vom 2. Mai 1945 auf zu existieren, als die am 29. April dieses Jahres unterzeichnete Kapitulation der deutschen und republikanisch-italienischen Streitkräfte im Norden des Landes wirksam wurde.
