Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass sich dieses Gebäude an dem Ort befindet, an dem Cortes und seine Übersetzerin und Geliebte Malinche einst lebten. Es wurde so benannt, weil es eines der wenigen Häuser aus Vulkangestein (und nicht aus Naturstein) ist, mit einer typischen roten Farbe und dekoriert mit Ajaracas, einem maurischen Einfluss, den die Spanier hierher brachten. Dieses Gestein ist leicht und in der Region weit verbreitet. Wenn man der Tür gegenübersteht, sieht man, dass sie rechtwinklig zum Eingang der Kirche gegenüber steht.
