Dieses Gebiet wird auch als 'Blaue Hand' bezeichnet. Früher gab es einen Damm im Kanal Beuker/Steenwijk, über den die Schiffe mit Torf transportiert werden mussten. Die Torfe wurden entladen und auf der anderen Seite des Damms in das andere Schiff geladen. Da der Torf sehr kupferhaltig war, bekamen die Arbeiter blaue Hände. Daher der Name Blaue Hand. Sie können ein Bild einer 'blauen Hand' auf dem Fliesenplateau beim Brückenwärterhäuschen an der Brücke bei der Blauen Hand finden.
