Vrouwenpolder liegt an der Nordspitze von Walcheren, in der Nähe des Veerse Gatdam, das die Insel mit Noord-Beveland verbindet. Es verfügt über einen breiten Nordseestrand, der dadurch im Sommer relativ ruhig ist. Vrouwenpolder ist im Vergleich zu anderen Dörfern in Walcheren relativ spät entstanden: die Kapelle wurde im vierzehnten Jahrhundert erbaut, in einem Gebiet, das ein Jahrhundert zuvor eingedeicht worden war. 1588 wurde Fort den Haak erbaut, um den Eingang zum Veerse Gat zu sichern. 1809 zerstörten die Engländer, die in diesem Jahr versuchten, über die niederländische Küste in Napoleons Reich einzufallen, das Fort, von dem jetzt nicht mehr als eine leere Fläche hinter der Dünenreihe übrig ist.
