Appeltern ist ein Dorf in der niederländischen Provinz Gelderland. Es gehört zur Gemeinde West Maas en Waal und liegt etwa 9 km nordöstlich von Oss. Bis 1984 war Appeltern eine eigenständige Gemeinde. Es wurde 1139 erstmals als de Apeltre erwähnt und bedeutet „Siedlung in der Nähe von Apfelbäumen“. Das Dorf entwickelte sich entlang der Maas. Der Turm der niederländisch-reformierten Kirche stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Der Chor datiert aus etwa 1400. 1859 wurden die Kirche und der Turm zu einem einzigen Gebäude umgebaut. Huis Appeltern war ein Herrenhaus, das im späten 17. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde. Es wurde 1881 abgerissen und nur der nördliche Flügel bleibt erhalten. 1840 hatte Appeltern 567 Einwohner.
