Im Jahr 1557 wurde das Schloss ter Horst vom damaligen Bürgermeister von Arnhem, Wijnand Hacfort, erbaut. Auf dem Gut, auf dem sich dieses Schloss befindet, wurden 1792 von seinen Nachfahren während einer großen Renovierung Kutschenhäuser und Ställe errichtet. Ein Spiek, der später als Orangerie genutzt wurde, diente als Lager für Getreide. Eine Kapelle im östlichen Nebengebäude war Zufluchtsort für die Katholiken, die damals ihren Glauben nicht frei ausüben durften.
