Das Rathaus in 's-Hertogenbosch hatte als Architekt Jan Derkennis, der auch am Bau der Sint-Janskathedrale beteiligt war. Das Gebäude stammt aus der zweiten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts. 1372 wurde die älteste Glocke aufgehängt. 1463 brannte ein Teil des Rathauses größtenteils nieder, woraufhin es umgebaut werden musste. Dieser Umbau wurde 1533 abgeschlossen.
Nach der Belagerung von 's-Hertogenbosch im Jahr 1629 wurde die spanisch gesinnte Stadt von Truppen der protestantischen Republik der Sieben Vereinigten Niederlande besetzt. Das Rathaus erhielt anschließend ein neues Aussehen, das die Macht der Region Holland, der wichtigsten Kraft innerhalb der Republik, ausstrahlen sollte.
