Arnhem ist eine Stadt in den Niederlanden. Sie ist Hauptstadt der Provinz Gelderland. Arnhem liegt am Nederrijn, einem relativ kurzen Abschnitt des Rheins nach der Rheinteilung, bei der die Waal und der Nederrijn, der spätere Lek, entstehen.Arnhem entstand an einer Anhöhe in der Nähe der IJssel an der Kreuzung der Handelsstraßen zwischen Utrecht, Nijmegen und Zutphen. Erst seit der Ausgrabung des Rheinverlaufs durch die Arnhemer Bürger im Auftrag von Karel van Gelre 1530 liegt Arnhem an diesem Fluss.
