Rietmolen ist ein Kirchendorf in der Gemeinde Berkelland, an der Grenze zwischen dem Gelderländer Achterhoek und Twente. Kulturell ist der Ort mit den katholischen Gemeinden im Norden, in Overijssel, insbesondere Haaksbergen verbunden, während es verwaltungsmäßig Teil von Gelderland ist. Das nahegelegene Neede kam um das Jahr 1600 infolge der Entwicklungen im Achtzigjährigen Krieg unter starken calvinistischen Einfluss. Nach der Eroberung der Herrlichkeit Borculo durch Maurits von Oranien war in Neede nur noch der niederdeutsche reformierte Glauben erlaubt.
