Es liegt nordöstlich von Drachten, östlich des Sees De Leijen und südwestlich von Harkema. Durch das Dorfgebiet verläuft die N369 und über die Lits ist eine Verbindung zu De Leijen hergestellt. Rottevalle verfügt über einen Yachthafen an der Lits und damit eine direkte Verbindung zur Lits-Lauwersmeer-Route. Im Jahr 2021 zählte das Dorf 1.405 Einwohner.
