Se encuentra al noreste de Drachten, al este del lago De Leijen y al suroeste de Harkema. A lo largo y a través de la zona del pueblo pasa la N369 y, a través de la Lits, está conectado con De Leijen. Rottevalle cuenta con un puerto deportivo en la Lits y, por lo tanto, una conexión directa con la ruta Lits-Lauwersmeer. En 2021, el pueblo contaba con 1.405 habitantes.
