Merkelbeek ist ein Dorfkern im östlichen Süd-Limburg und gehört zur Gemeinde Beekdaelen. Merkelbeek liegt kurz nordwestlich von Brunssum, auf das das Dorf blickt. Bis 1982 war Merkelbeek eine selbständige Gemeinde. Von 1982 bis 2018 gehörte Merkelbeek zur Gemeinde Onderbanken, die am 1. Januar 2019 in Beekdaelen aufgegangen ist.
