Es liegt im Nordwesten von Makkum, im Westen von Wons und im Südwesten von Zurich, etwas südlich der Stelle, wo der Afsluitdijk die friesische Küste erreicht. Der Dorfkern liegt nahe dem IJsselmeer und an der Kornwerdervaart. Auf dem Afsluitdijk liegt das Dorf Kornwerderzand, das auf einer Arbeitsinsel auf der Sandbank entstanden ist, die nach dem Dorf Cornwerd benannt wurde. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 80 Einwohner. Zu dem Dorf gehören auch die Wohnplätze Hiddum, Houw und Sotterum.
