Das Werk aan het Spoel ist ein Teil der Neuen Holländischen Wasserlinie. Das Werk liegt entlang der Lek, einen Kilometer østlich von Fort Everdingen, nahe der Stadt Culemborg. Es wurde in der Periode von 1816 bis 1824 erbaut und hatte zum Ziel, das dort gelegene Wassertor zu schützen. Zusammen mit den Überflutungsanlagen von Fort Everdingen konnte somit das Poldergebiet zwischen Culemborg und der Diefdijk unter Wasser gesetzt werden, um Holland vor dem Feind zu schützen.
