Die Nordkap befindet sich an der Nordseite der Emmapolder, am Rand der Gemeinde Het Hogeland in der Provinz Groningen. Der letzte Abschnitt zur Nordkap ist nur zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad erreichbar.
Um den Ort zu markieren und damit mehr Touristen anzuziehen, ließ die damalige Gemeinde Eemsmond im Jahr 2002 das Kunstwerk 'Die Himmelstür' oder 'Tor Kap Nord' des Künstlers René de Boer aufstellen. Der Name 'Nordkap' wurde zeitgleich mit der Aufstellung des Kunstwerks erfunden. Der Ort selbst ist nicht als 'äußerster Punkt' erkennbar, da der Deich an dieser Stelle einen leicht gebogenen Verlauf hat.
