Das Dorf Huizen entwickelte sich bereits vor 1700 zu einem Fischerdorf. Vor etwa 200 Jahren waren dort circa 150 Fischer und mehr als 200 Fischhändler zu finden. Vor dem Bau des Hafens lagen alle Kähne vor der Küste. Erst 1853 wurde der Hafen ausgehoben, und die Schiffe konnten sicher im Hafen festmachen und der Fisch konnte einfach entladen werden. Der Hafen wurde kürzlich weiter ausgebaut mit Holzhäusern im Stil von früher, in denen unter anderem ein Hotel und mehrere Restaurants untergebracht sind.
