Der Bahnhof Kijkuit (besehen) hat 80 Jahre Dienst geleistet (als kleinster Bahnhof in Zeeland) an der Eisenbahnlinie (54) von Mechelen nach Terneuzen von Oktober 1871 bis Oktober 1951. Bereits beim Bau der Eisenbahn im Jahr 1871 wurde am Rand des Weilers Kijkuit ein Ausweichgleis zur Aufnahme und Abfuhr von insbesondere landwirtschaftlichen Produkten angelegt. 1875 wurde dieses Ausweichgleis um 120 Meter verlängert zugunsten der Rübenkampagne und des Düngemittelhandels. Ab 1885 erhielt Kijkuit den Status einer Haltestelle und 1897 wurde es erneut ein Bahnhof, bevor es 1926 wieder zu einer Haltestelle wurde. In der glorreichen Zeit bestand der Bahnhof aus fünf Gleisen. Zu dieser Zeit passierten hier täglich 4 Personen- und
5 Güterzüge von Terneuzen nach St. Niklaas. Prinz Maurits baute Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts das Fort ‘Kijckuit‘ als eines der Verteidigungswerke gegen die Spanier.
