Das Kuppelchen war ursprünglich ein geschützter Aussichtspunkt. In Kriegsjahren wurde eine „Landwacht“ eingerichtet, um herannahende feindliche Schiffe rechtzeitig zu erkennen, damit eine mögliche Landung verhindert werden konnte. So ein Aussichtspunkt wurde auch Wachthaus oder Sentinel genannt. Bereits 1598 wurde von den Gecommitteerde Raden van Zeeland eine „Landwacht“ eingerichtet. Auch im Ersten Weltkrieg diente das Kuppelchen noch als Aussichtspunkt. Im Jahr 2000 wurde das Kuppelchen durch ein Feuer zerstört. Im Jahr 2001 wurde es im Auftrag der Stichting Renesse wieder aufgebaut.
Am 16. Juli 2009 brannte das Kuppelchen erneut ab. Nachdem das Kuppelchen im Dezember 2009 renoviert wurde, brannte es am 15. April 2011 erneut ab. Das Kuppelchen wurde mittlerweile wieder aufgebaut und am 1. November 2011 fertiggestellt, jedoch nun mit einem zinkenen Dach.
