Ouddorp ist in erster Linie ein beliebter Badeort mit einem breiten und langen Strand, der in einem schönen Dünengebiet liegt.
Möglicherweise wurde das Dorf bereits im Jahr 900 gegründet. Damit ist Ouddorp bei weitem das älteste Dorf von Goeree-Overflakkee. Die Dorfkirche ist Sankt Martin gewidmet. Im Jahr 1418 kam es während der Hoekse und Kabeljauwse Streitigkeiten zu einer Plünderung und Brandstiftung durch Herzog Jan von Brabant, und 1490 durch Jonker Frans von Brederode und Herr Jan von Naaldwijk. Um 1594 gab es in Ouddorp eine 'niederländisch reformierte Gemeinde'. Heute zählt das Dorf sechs Kirchengemeinschaften.
Ouddorp war lange Zeit eine sehr geschlossene Gemeinschaft. Der Goeree-Dialekt (gesprochen in Ouddorp und Goedereede) steht dem Holländischen sehr fern und ist voll und ganz Zeeuws. Der Anteil der Dialektsprecher in Ouddorp ist sehr hoch (der höchste ganz Goeree-Overflakkee),
