Auf dem Kollenberg in Sittard steht die Sint Rosakapelle. Ein kleines Gebäude aus Ziegelstein und Mergel, mit einer großen und reichen Geschichte. Die Kapelle wurde 1675 zu Ehren von Rosa, der Schutzpatronin von Sittard, erbaut. Im Jahr 1668 brach in Sittard eine Dysenterie-Epidemie aus, die viele Opfer forderte. Auf Fürsprache von Rosa hörte die ansteckende Krankheit auf.
Die Stadtverwaltung versprach daraufhin, jedes Jahr am letzten Sonntag im August eine Prozession zur Sint Rosakapelle abzuhalten. Sittard hat sein Versprechen gehalten und seit 1675 findet diese bekannte Dankprozession jährlich statt. Im Monat August kannst du die Kapelle auch von innen besichtigen, zwischen 14:00 und 16:30 Uhr.
