Naturschutzgebiet de Rucphense Heide.
Früher waren große Teile der Gemeinde Rucphen mit Torfmooren bedeckt, die sumpfig und unzugänglich waren.
Bestimmend für die Entwicklung und Erschließung des Gebiets war der Torfabbau.
Später, im Mittelalter, gab es eine große Nachfrage nach dem Brennstoff Torf.
Daraus entwickelte sich eine Torfindustrie und Westbrabant war eines der ersten Gebiete in Nordwesteuropa, in dem man industriell Torf abbaut.
Nach 1700 kam es allmählich zu einem Ende der Torfindustrie.
An den ehemaligen Torfabbaugebieten wurden Produktionswälder und Gutsanlagen angelegt.
