Bereits im Jahr 1150 wird von einer Burg in Born, ganz in der Nähe des Standorts der heutigen Ruine, berichtet. Zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts verfiel die Burg, nach dem die Familie De Leerodt 1662 mit dem Bau eines neuen Schlosses begann. Leider wurde das Gebäude, das damals von der Familie Barbou von Roosteren bewohnt war, 1930 bei einem fatalen Brand zerstört. In den Gärten rund um die Ruine wurde ein wunderschöner Tierpark angelegt, in dem Besucher viele Tierarten bewundern können.
Die Kastenruine Born ist einer der Staunorte auf der Route voller Verwunderung. Während dieser Fahrradtour durch das Grensmaas-Tal können mehr als 30 Standorte digital besucht werden, wenn sie nicht für die Öffentlichkeit geöffnet sind.
