Das Jugenddorf wurde von den Dominikanerinnen von Bethanien gegründet und 1957 in Betrieb genommen. Die offizielle Eröffnung, im Beisein der damaligen Prinzessin Beatrix, fand 1960 statt. Es handelte sich um die Betreuung von aus ihrem Zuhause genommenen Jugendlichen.
1959 wurde das Kloster fertiggestellt. Die Schwestern kamen von Magdalenahof in Exaten bei Baexem, wo bereits eine Einrichtung für Kinder von verurteilten NSB-Mitgliedern und anderen Kriegsverbrechern bestand. Ab 1983 lag die Leitung in den Händen von Nicht-Geistlichen, und 1988 fusionierte man mit Huize Clara Fey in Roermond.
